Jerry Davis was an exceptionally kind, generous, and loving man who cared deeply about his family. He was hard working and engaged in a lifetime of successful business and community projects. His smile and gentle eyes are missed by those who knew and loved him. He died August 6, 2021, at the age of 71 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Jerry, the eldest of five children, was born in Freer, Texas in 1949. He grew up working on his family's farms and ranches, where he acquired a strong work ethic and curiosity-driven motivation that inspired him throughout his life. Jerry graduated from New Mexico State Univ with a degree in cinematography which became a life- long hobby. Jerry moved to Vail, Colorado in 1975, where in partnership with his brother Darrell he established the first cable television company in the area. This marked the beginning of Jerry's long and successful entrepreneurial career. He went on to start Telephone Communications Corporation in Vail and his all-time favorite business, KZYR-FM, "The Zephyr" radio station in Avon.
Jerry was also an enthusiastic and dedicated public servant who shared his time and talents by serving on the Avon Town Council and then as mayor from 1990-92. After moving to Taos, New Mexico in the early 1990s, he worked with the town's elected officials to create a lodging tax that helps to fund marketing and regional bus transit.
In Taos Jerry, along with his wife Peggy, began his final beloved project, the Inn on La Loma Plaza. They converted this fortified Spanish settlement dating to the 1800s, remodeled in the quintessential Pueblo Revival Architecture style of the early 20th century (a dual National Historic Register designation), into an ambiance-filled, upscale inn. They took pride in creating this one-of-a-kind place, and Jerry's attention to detail is evident throughout the property. For nearly 30 years, Jerry and Peggy delighted in sharing the Inn's ambiance, knowledge of the region, and Southwestern hospitality with their guests. Now, Peggy carries forward their vision for the Inn.
